I happened to have a suggested book come up on my amazon account and as I started reading the sample, I was shocked by how detailed the author explained her near death experience (NDE). The book is called Nine Days of Eternity: An Extraordinary Near-Death Experience That Teaches Us About Life and Beyond by Anke Evertz.
Anke describes herself as a tired working mother that had become very detached from her true Self before her near death experience. The day of her NDE, she went running and when she returned to her house, she lit a fire in her living room. She accidentally used the wrong lighter, a highly flammable bioethanol fuel instead of the safer liquid firelighter and she finds her pants have caught on fire. The fire spreads quickly and she becomes engulfed in flames. Interestingly, she says that she had no pain or fear throughout the whole experience. Anke says that she realized she was dying and surrenders. She is then catapulted out of her body and watches the scene 6 feet away from outside her body. She sees her 14-year-old son come in to try to put out the fire. He yells and her friend comes in and is able to roll her body up in a carpet to put the fire out. Anke explains that as she watches the scene unfold she is neutral, interested, observing, and curious. A helicopter takes her to a hospital where she is put into a medically induced coma. The whole time, Anke is still watching the scene from outside her body. Anke describes being out of her body, "I couldn't remember ever feeling so free and light. I was like a bird that's spent its life in a tiny cage and has suddenly been set free. But now that the cage door was open, I didn't really know what to do with my freedom."
Anke then starts to see the hospital room expand and everything permeates with an endless spectrum of colors. She hears a voice tell her that everything is okay and sees a radiant gold being of light as high as the ceiling, smiling at her. She says the figure tells her he needs to show her a few things. She agrees and says, "As the figure came closer still, I could feel myself being drawn into his luminous energy field. And then I was gone."
She then says the following, "The unlimited space around us began to change as we entered realms crafted from a brilliant, fluorescent light, a light so bright that it almost blinded me. It wasn't light as we know it on Earth; it wasn't simply that it shone brightly but rather that it was made up of an infinite number of colors and frequencies, arranged in a way that made it feel alive. It's the light of a living, universal consciousness that permeates everything in existence. It makes you feel a complete, pure, and unconditional love, none of the emotions we experience as human beings come even close to it."
She then explains the following about what she perceives, "There was a floor that wasn't a real floor, and yet it was there. It was beneath feet that I no longer had, and yet I still felt them. A very familiar yet wonderful feeling. Only then did I realize that I still identified with my body in the way I always had, although so much had changed. I still felt like myself, an autonomous individual with my own thoughts and feelings, and although I knew that I'd left my physical body behind in the hospital, I was somehow standing on two legs and examining my transparent hands."
As Anke's time in the spirit realm continues, she begins to remember who she is as a soul. She says the following, "Our soul stores all our experiences from previous lives, and it knows our higher purpose and path, our current life plan, and all the challenges and the solutions to those challenges that come with it". Anke then has a telepathic conversation with her spirit guide whom she calls her teacher. Her spirit guide shows her a life review which includes every moment of her life and how every person and action is connected, even the smallest of details.
After Anke is shown her life review, her spirit guide brings it up a level and shows her past lives with her mother and father. She says that her mother played different roles in the many lives they had together. For example her spirit guide shows her a past life where her mother was her little brother. In this life Anke had an abusive father whom they were all very afraid of. Her and her little brother (current mother) had a lot of fear and feelings of powerlessness. Her spirit guide explains that this past life is why her mother chose the challenge of resolving these fears and sense of powerlessness in the current life. Thus, reviewing this past life allows Anke to understand her connection and relationship with her mother much more clearly. Through reviewing past lives with her father, she finds out that they tend to play competitors, opponents, or teachers for one another in their lives together.
She explains that her spirit guide shows her that everyone in her life plays a significant role like the cast of a film. She understands why she chose her parents and the specific role they play in her learning as a soul. She says the following, "We're like a group of performers who enjoy staging new stories time and time again. We direct tragedies and comedies, writing in love or action scenes, and top it all off with a good dose of drama. And we're all writing the scripts of our lives together."
She then asks her spirit guide what part he plays in her life and he shows her a review of her current life and past lives where he has been at her side the whole time. She realizes that they have an unshakeable bond based on many lives together. Her spirit guide then begins to show her what's possible in the spirit realm. He transforms himself into a human figure, then he changes his form into that of a little boy, then a beautiful woman. He also changes the environment and landscapes they are in like a time-lapse film. He explains to her that she can change her form and landscape as well using her thoughts. She is able to change her form into the same beautiful woman that he displayed. Then she tries to create something with her mind and she says that she formed a Christmas tree because it was the first thing that came to her mind. Her spirit guide explains the lesson in all this, "You can create whatever you want, and that means you can automatically achieve it too. It works the same way with feelings, experiences, or situations. It was you who created the confines of your life, the heaviness and the pressure, and that's what became your reality. You are the creator of your own life".
I have not had a near death experience but Anke's relationship with her guide reminded me of my own experiences. My spirit guide told me to call him Socrates because he is my "teacher" and mentor in the spirit realm, just as she called her spirit guide "teacher". My spirit guide also reminded me of my plans and requests to him for this incarnation when he was channeled by an intuitive. You can read my detailed blog post called Spirit Guides for more on this.
Anke is then pulled into a higher realm and is enveloped by the energy of the Source (or God...whatever term you like). She says the following, "I was filled with an indescribable feeling of bliss and surrounded by beautiful and impressive sounds, colors, and vibrations. The sounds were limitless and pervasive, like the song of heaven, and I sensed I could almost reach out and touch them. It was as if all the consciousness of Creation had gathered here to welcome me. I truly felt that Creation had been revealed to me in the form of sound, color, and vibration." She says that as she was observing everything that was happening around her, swirls of color opened up like gateways into other worlds. She sees the Earth and says she could tell it was an enormous living field of consciousness. She says that every person and every soul that had ever been on the Earth was connected to the Source via innumerable threads of light.
Anke then explains that another gateway opens and she is in a different realm. "Planets flew toward me, along with solar systems and whole galaxies, filled with all kinds of life. World after world opened before my eyes, and all were connected to the Source in a way that felt completely natural. There were so many worlds, so many dimensions, and all were part of a spectacular tapestry of color and sound! I saw dimensions and worlds that seemed to vibrate at far higher and much more subtle frequencies than those of our planet, and they were home to far more intelligent life forms."
Anke explains in the book the nature of the Source, "The Source is unconditional. It has no concept of right or wrong, good or evil, yes or no. For the Source, everything is equivalent, and this means that we can always tap into its abundance. Good deeds and bad deeds are the same thing to the Source because nothing means anything. These are human definitions that don't exist for the Source. The Source wants us to recognize ourselves as our own creator, to have our own experiences, and to learn and grow from them." This is all so very similar to the details I provided in the What is God / Source blog post.
After Anke's time spent with the Source, she meets with her spirit guide again. Her teacher explains to her why she had this near death experience. He says the following, "We made an agreement, a long, long time ago, and we've now honored that agreement. You carefully planned the accident with the fire, so it could serve as a valuable opportunity for you to consciously leave your body for a longer period. This was necessary for you to be able to fully experience your True Self, the Source, and your consciousness. Everything that we've experienced together was scheduled by you before you were born. You decided on this comprehensive training, no one else. It was important that you perceive yourself." Essentially, her spirit guide is explaining that this NDE was part of her soul plan to awaken and remember who she is as a soul. See my blog post on the soul plan for more details on why souls create a soul plan or pre-birth contract.
Anke also writes about why humans have amnesia and can't remember the spirit realm and their soul plan. She says the following, "But this forgetting serves a purpose. We're here to have experiences and therefore it would be counterproductive if we knew we had a magic wand we could wave to change everything about our lives in any given moment. We'd never know pain, or discomfort, or poverty, or failure because we'd know how quickly we could change or improve our situation or condition. So, from a spiritual point of view, it's not about living a perfectly easy life as a human being, because if it were easy, there would be nothing for us to grow and learn from. We need to experience the limits. We need to figure out what those limits are and then find a way to break them. So, there's a good reason why we've forgotten everything that's available to us and why we don't always get everything we want."
Anke explains the purpose of being in a human body, "We are here on Earth to experience the full effect of our separation from the spiritual realm, from our True Self, and its associated isolation. This is exactly why we chose our physical body (we can only enter the illusion of time and space through a physical body; the body is what makes it possible for us to experience ourselves within duality as separate from everything else)".
Anke then faces a decision that many near death experiencers have to face, if she will return to her body. Her spirit guide leaves the decision up to her. She now understands that her body carries the energy of the Source within its cells. She says the following, "The body is truly a colorful, rich, and vibrant energy field that permanently resonates and communicates with its surroundings and our consciousness. The way I see it, it's made of the finest light structures, and the space in and around its cells is pure liveliness and joy. It loves to vibrate and to react to vibrations, transforming them into color and sound. The body's mission is for us to experience life in it and through it. It's directly connected to the Source through its cells and DNA. We wanted to be born into the body we inhabit, and we each choose a body that's perfect for our needs. When the body's ill, the illness has a deeper meaning for us; if we feel that the body's restrictive, if we reject it or fight against it, this also has a deeper meaning, our meaning."
Anke obviously makes the decision to return to her body since she wrote this book. Her spirit guide shows her how the soul gently slips in and out of the human body. She slowly starts to engage with her body and realizes how truly alive it is. She wakes up from her coma and is totally changed. She explains that she doesn't need much pain medication because she can still feel the energy of the spirit realm, her spirit guide, and the Source. She is happy and has gratitude for everything that happened even though her face, ears, neck, and hands were severely burned. When she looks at the mirror her face is puffy with no lips, no hair, and her facial skin is red, raw flesh with dark scabs on top. She says that she slept most of the time when she returned from her coma, which allowed her body to heal. She went home 14 days after the accident which is amazing. She explains how happy she was to be with her family and the gratitude she felt all the time.
As Anke integrates her experiences into her life, she is no longer in fear of making big changes and decisions in her life. She decides to leave her marriage realizing that she and her husband are not connected anymore. She also decides to leave her job and find fulfillment through writing her book and sharing her experiences with others. Since her near death experience in 2009, Anke says she has found that there are eight golden keys to a fulfilling life. Below are the eight keys:
Key 1: Surrender and Accept - She explains that this means letting go of wanting to control everything in life. When we let go of control, we start to see synchronicities and co-create with the universe. This allows us to find our joy and purpose in life.
Key 2: Practice Gratitude - Anke explains that she has so much gratitude for her accident because it changed her in such positive ways. We can all find gratitude, even on the worst days. Gratitude for clean drinking water, for the stars and our beautiful sky, for the loved ones on this journey with us, for the shelter over our heads, and for all the experiences in this life that provide us with learning and evolution for our soul.
Key 3: Know That You Always Have a Choice - Anke explains that since her accident she realized that she can choose to do things that don't feel good or choose not to do them. She can choose to feel small and powerless or decide to stop feeling that way. We are all creators of our own life.
Key 4: Make a Decision - Anke realizes from her experience that there is no good or bad decision in life. The purpose to life is for creative experiences in a human body. You are perfect exactly the way you are. Use your intuition to make the decisions that are best for YOU.
Key 5: Understand Your True Purpose - Anke realizes that we can all figure out our purpose and our gifts by following our joy and passion. What makes you excited? That emotion is your higher self telling you to move forward with that excitement. When we follow our joy and excitement, life becomes easier and we co-create with the universe.
Key 6: Listen to Your Body - Anke explains that the body has an energetic component and reacts to the vibration of food, clothes we wear, to our thoughts, and especially to how we feel about ourselves. Our body speaks to us through pain or illness. Our feelings are the body's true language. The greatest love affair you should ever have is with your own body and yourself.
Key 7: Know That Nothing Exists Outside of You - Anke explains that the perception that we are isolated is an illusion. The truth is that everything is interconnected. Every being on this planet is connected by an energetic field. The reason we feel separation is to experience challenge and learning in this human body.
Key 8: Love Yourself - Anke says that we already have everything within us that we need to live a fulfilling life. Then as we learn to adapt to society and other people, we're pulled away from ourselves. "To develop unconditional self-love, you must acknowledge yourself fully and completely, exactly as you are right now - and know that you're perfect just the way you are, and you always have been."
Interestingly, Anke's keys to a fulfilling life and finding purpose are consistent with my blog post on How to Find Your Own Purpose. At the end of the book, Anke says that her body healed after one year. She's happier than she has ever been in her life. See picture below of Anke.
IANDS (the International Association of Near Death Studies) states that 5% of the world population has had a near death experience which is 400 million people. We can learn so much from the wisdom and teachings these people bring back from the spirit realm.
