World War I
World War I

I recently finished a book called The Power of Past Life Regression by Steve Burgess and I wanted to share some interesting information from his book. Burgess explains that hypnotherapy is just a relaxed state where clients are led into a theta brain wave state. In this state, the conscious mind is relaxed and the subconscious is able to do the talking, Burgess calls this a trance state. We can all experience this state through meditation, right before we fall asleep, when we first wake up, and sometimes when we are driving. Hypnotherapy is convenient because the hypnotherapist is able to ask the subconscious questions while we are in this relaxed state.

Burgess says he was a standard therapist in the 1990s doing typical hypnotherapy for smoking, over-eating, etc when he had a client come into his office riddled with anxiety. The client went into a trance state and started shaking, jerking, and moving. The client then started yelling about Nazi's finding him and his family and shooting them. After the client experienced the emotions of the past life, the client felt great. The client's extreme anxiety was gone after this session. Burgess was shocked and due to this session, he decided to train in past life regression therapy. Burgess says that he thinks ALL issues are caused by emotional issues. Based on his book, I would say he makes a good argument that this is true.

When a client first comes to see him, he discusses with them the option of whether their emotional or physical issues could be coming from this life. If there are no traumas from this life that could cause the problem then it's most likely a past life. Burgess uses a technique called ‘Ideo-Motor Response’ (or IMR for short) where the person is under hypnosis and lifts their hand and uses a finger for yes or no responses on whether the issue is caused by this life or past lives and then how many past lives are causing the issue.

Let me provide the first case in the book. Helen came to Burgess because she was an alcoholic. Every night for the last 20 years after work she would go home and drink until she was drunk by 9pm. She was living alone, overweight, suffered from poor sleep, and had chronic asthma. Helen was also extremely skeptical about past life therapy and actually went to Burgess to prove to her friend that it wouldn't work. Burgess explains that addictions to alcohol, food, etc are just anesthetizing emotional pain. Her current life had no real childhood traumas so it wasn't her current life that was causing the emotional pain. When Helen is under hypnosis, Burgess asks her subconscious to take her back to the roots of her inner anxieties. Helen experiences a past life in battle during the 1400s. She experiences fighting, she sees hundreds of people dying, and she's hiding behind a tree. In this past life she also sees Joan of Arc burned alive. She dies in that life and feels a sense of relief that the life is over.

Helen arrived at their second session a week later very confused. Burgess says the following, "She could not understand why, but she had not had a drink of alcohol all week, and what’s more at no time did she feel that she wanted one! She couldn’t understand why this had happened after just one session of regression, but she was obviously very happy that for the first time in two decades she had not had any alcohol for several days." Helen tells Burgess that she did feel angry a couple times during the week for no reason. Helen goes under hypnosis and experiences a past life in World War I in the trenches. She's a male soldier that dies in a muddy trench. Helen describes the death as follows, “I don’t know why but I’m laid in the mud. I know I’m dying. I’m drifting off, there’s no sound, I can’t hear any guns anymore. I can just see a clear light and I feel warm and safe.”

Helen then experiences a past life as a Native American woman with a child. Soldiers come and kill villagers and her husband. She then moves on to a life during Roman times where she's a woman in an amphitheater watching lions fighting and killing people. She's eventually killed in that life in the amphitheater. She describes her death in that life as follows, "A lion’s walking around us and a man with a sword is in the arena too. He’s going to kill us. He stabs me and the servant. I’m on the floor but it doesn’t hurt. It’s alright.” Helen became a bit emotional as she whispered: “I know we’re both dying. It doesn’t hurt. I’m going on a journey, I feel happy, not scared. I’m in sunshine now, and peaceful.” Burgess says the following in the book, "Helen breathed a big sigh of relief and was quiet and calm. It was obvious that she had died in the past life. Her death experience was similar to many others that I have witnessed as a Past Life Therapist. Features such as a bright light and feelings of complete calmness are reported by many people once they leave the body. I allowed Helen to relax as she left that lifetime and then I slowly brought her back to full awareness." Burgess ends that chapter saying that Helen had these sessions in 1999 and hasn't touched a drop of alcohol since. After her sessions she lost weight, took on new opportunities at work, and became involved in a long term relationship.

The book has many examples like this. Burgess's book has chapters with clients that have depression, skin issues, smoking addiction, physical issues like back problems, anxiety, eating disorders, migraines, issues getting pregnant, and sexual issues. These clients regress into their past lives and experience wars, rape, murder, holocaust, prison...etc. After they experience the past life memories and die in the past life, they are at ease and relieved the life is over. They are then healed from the issues they are experiencing. Burgess explains that his clients are releasing locked up negative emotions and this is what is allowing the healings to occur. There are a multitude of examples and all the lives are very challenging human lives throughout history.

What's really interesting is when the client can say the past life person's name and provide meticulous details where the past life person can be looked up and researched. In one example, Burgess's client went into a past life in World War I as an English pilot. The client actually knew the past life person's name, Pilot Officer Andrew Evans and provided the serial number of 96713. During the past life regression, the client says that the airplanes he has to fly are too slow and poor quality and that they want the new SE5s. He dies while he's flying over enemy territory. After his session, the client looks up this pilot officer and he sends the following information to Burgess, "I was telling my son James about my last session with you & he just did a website trace on pilot Evans – he was found to be a pilot with 64 Squadron RAF in October 1917 flying Farman FE.2BS pusher Biplane. His squadron was issued with the latest SE5 Fighter aircraft just a month after he was killed in 1917." This doesn't happen in every hypnosis regression where the client can get a name, but it does seem to happen enough where it can provide evidence that reincarnation is a very real thing. I liked Burgess' book so I decided to read his other book called Famous Past Lives. Wow, this book blew my mind. He explains in the beginning of the book that in the thousands of clients he saw, he didn't have any clients regress to being famous people. He says that most past lives are typical lives of hardship on Earth. However, over a period of a few years he received a couple clients that were famous people. The book discusses a client that comes in with very detailed knowledge of Queen Elizabeth's life. This woman feels and describes the emotions of Queen Elizabeth I and the facts and details she provides of Queen Elizabeth's life made this case seem to me extremely believable. We find out that Elizabeth was deeply in love with Robert Dudley and had his child but never acted on her love for him due to the political risk. She sent her child away to be raised by another family the day he was born. Then Burgess explains that he has a client come in that details the life of Queen Mary. We find out that Mary led a very depressing and sad life wanting attention and love from her father, King Henry VIII and husband, King Philip. I know this may seem shocking, ridiculous, and totally unbelievable but after reading the book, I definitely felt that the experiences were very real. Burgess actually had these two clients meet and they felt very cold toward each other. Throughout the book we find out that Mary was always very jealous of Elizabeth and that Elizabeth never got over her resentment toward Mary for putting her in the Tower of London. I recommend this book called Famous Past Lives, the detail provided by these people under hypnosis is really shocking and fascinating (link at the end of the post).

What's funny is that after reading Burgess' two books, I looked at my phone today and an interview with Steve Burgess was at the top of my podcast app. I listened to his interview and he said that he has recently been attracting many starseed clients. Essentially, his clients are describing past lives on other planets. He said just recently he had a client go into a past life in the Lyra constellation. The client described seeing many galactic races, specifically beings with lion heads. She described herself as a being that looked elf-like. She said they had a beautiful planet but they were mercilessly attacked by a group of reptilian beings. The client said that she was able to get away on a spacecraft but they were still killed on the spacecraft. Interestingly, I just wrote about this in my blog post called Pictures and Descriptions of the Primary Galactic Races , where I describe Feline Beings in the Lyra constellation and their beautiful planet that was attacked by reptilian beings. Burgess said that other hypnotherapists are also seeing this trend of more starseeds detailing out their past lives on other planets. He said that starseeds have incarnated on Earth to bring light to the planet for Earth's ascension process.

About a year ago, I was reading about the healing power that past life regression can provide and I thought it was amazing. I still do think it's wonderful if someone can get this type of healing from a past life or in between life regression. To view one's past lives can be a life changing experience. However, I do want to share my own experience that I don't think we have to work through all our past life issues in one life. We have eternity to incarnate, evolve, and work through any karmic energy. In a channeling with Stephanie, my higher self actually told me not to be too concerned with "shadow work" and that there was plenty of time to work through my past lives. Here is the channeling where this was communicated: Another Fascinating Channeling With My Higher Self. Thus, I think it really depends on the person. If people are drawn toward doing a past life regression, then they should follow that instinct and find an experienced hypnotherapist.

The other point I wanted to make is that I don't think we always need another person to help us release our fears and anxieties. I do think it's possible to work through our issues on our own. I used to have anxiety and fear of death and I think meditation and my research into consciousness helped, as well as replacing anxious thoughts with high vibe thoughts. If I had an anxious or fearful thought, I would repeat words like joy, love, and gratitude as a mantra. This worked for me. There is of course no shame in reaching out for help from someone else but I'm making the point that I do think it's possible to work on issues on our own as well.

To summarize, I think working through issues is a personal journey and people have to use their own intuition to decide the best therapy. It's important for people to know that there are these therapies out there and they do seem to work for people. It's a great alternative to pharmaceuticals which can have side effects and don't always work. I definitely recommend Burgess's books to better understand how past lives can show up in our current lives. His books are well documented, organized, and extremely interesting.
