I finally got a chance to read Rob Gentile's book called Quarks of Light. I'll discuss his very riveting book in this blog post. Rob is the son of Italian immigrants. He grew up in Aliquippa, PA where his father worked in a steel mill. Rob has spent his career as a sales representative in the steel industry while married to his wife Melanie for over thirty years.

Rob and his wife Melanie have a special needs daughter named Maria. Rob talks a lot about Maria throughout the book. His daughter is unable to talk, care for herself, and experiences seizures. Rob and Melanie have gone through decades of sleep depravation, waking up in the middle of the night to Maria having seizures, and being in and out of hospitals. Maria was misdiagnosed several times and this was all financially draining for them. They traveled the US trying to find a diagnosis for their daughter's illness. They finally figured out that she has a neurodegenerative condition called Rett Syndrome.

Even though Rob went through these extremely challenging times with his daughter, his spiritual journey starts when he has a massive heart attack at the age of fifty-six. He's taken to the hospital and while his wife is sitting next to him, Rob springs forward and sits straight up in the bed, his eyes popped wide open, and he screams out the name "Frosty!" before collapsing backward and flatlining. Frosty is his brother-in-law that took his own life only seven weeks prior to this. The doctors work to resuscitate Rob for twenty minutes. His organs start to shut down. He says that Dr. Patel pressed forward against the odds and continues with CPR. She obtains a slight pulse and puts him on a ventilator.

When Rob is stable enough, he tells his wife that he saw her brother in the spirit realm. Rob says that Frosty told him with a sense of regret the following, "I've made a big mess out of things and I need you to go back and help clean it up. Tell my family I'm in a good place." Rob says, "As Frosty spoke, I felt an incredible peace and emotional purity emanating from him. In life, he had a terrible anxiety disorder and eventually turned to drugs for relief. None of that anxiety followed him into the spirit realm. His words were childlike and pure, as if he lost all memory of his earthly struggles, torment, and demons. There was an indescribable peace and love emanating from Frosty and the realm he was in."

Rob reflects on this "place" he went to, it was not what he expected based on the Catholic belief systems he was raised on. He contemplates the fact that his Catholic upbringing taught him that those that commit suicide go to hell but this certainly was not hell where he met his brother-in-law. In fact, his brother-in-law was filled with love. He questions the religious dogma he was taught as a child. If this teaching was incorrect, what else was the church wrong about? This leads him to study different religions and he realizes that the one thing in common with all religion is the underlying focus on love and that's what we should be focusing on.

Rob then has a challenging journey in front of him. He finds out from his doctors that his heart experienced serious trauma and that a heart transplant is the only long-term solution. Hearts are in extreme short supply, so another solution is called an LVAD. The LVAD is a mechanical pump that is inserted inside the heart to keep blood flowing. The wires from the pump come out of the left side of the body, just below the rib cage, and attach to a battery pack. Rob becomes very depressed throughout the book thinking about how he can continue working, support his family financially, and help with his special needs daughter.

Much of the book is the rollercoaster of his emotions, and the question of whether he will get a heart transplant. At one point he's about to get a heart but he finds out he has prostate cancer which means the government won't allow a heart transplant. His doctors have to lobby for him to get a heart and he actually creates a precedence by getting a heart transplant with prostate cancer. At one point, in the hospital while he's waiting for a donor heart to become available, he has a second near death experience.

Rob describes his second near death experience as follows, "I was taken up into a timeless place. I found myself inside a shapeless, formless vacuum of sorts....an unending, infinite vastness. Much like looking out an airplane window on a cloudless day, I saw everything and nothing at the same time. I was everywhere at once, as if I was made of sand and someone picked me up and threw the grains of my being into a strong wind, scattering me across an infinite, timeless universe. It felt as if I was connected to the vast wisdom of the universe, all of it, without words. I did not see a singular divine being, instead God was expressed as an imprint of concepts that I wholly understood without explanation: I am the power behind all things; My power is Omnipotent; I am the origin of all; This is the Divine Source, the foundation for everything; This is your real identity."

Rob goes on to say, "There was nothing to smell, taste, or touch. What had been expanded was my ability to view light. The human eye can detect only a small percentage of the color spectrum. But in the Ethereal, unseen colors abound. Communication is telepathic. It is sensed, felt, then absorbed. It is extrasensory perception and synchronicity at the same time. I saw that time was only real in the physical realm to satisfy our one-dimensional linear thinking, but it was an illusion in the Ethereal. Instead, time was constantly in flux between past and present, creating the ultimate paradox. The future seemed hidden. Knowledge of how the universe works was understood in a flash. I sensed complex mathematical equations, along with their solutions, floating in the air, surrounding me. The nature of the universe and the laws that govern its design are elegant. To learn the answers to any question, all I had to do was observe."

"With each insight revealed, I thought, of course! How simple. It has to be designed this way. Everything is created from the same ingredients, same formula. All people, all creatures, everything animate and inanimate are all connected. We just manifest physical forms differently but all things are one. This is the only way the Creator could have designed it. Only humans have made it so complicated. I understood that I was not my body, my race, nor my religion. This was a message of unity, oneness, and most importantly, relationship. This was my real identity. God experiences and expresses himself through his creations."

"Now I saw and simultaneously became part of what looked like a gigantic web that covers the Earth and stretches to infinity. I cannot explain exactly what this web is, except that it looked like it was made of trillions of neurons and it is a vast, interactive network that binds us all. I somehow knew that each neuron represents a life, and each life has a tiny quark of light inside its nucleus. The dendrites or tentacles of each neuron are entwined with the next one, weaving together a tapestry of twinkling lights that hang on the ceiling of the universe. Curiously, there were some parts of the web that are brighter than others, while some were almost completely dark."

I will skip ahead a little to the part where Rob sees the soul of his daughter in the spirit realm. He says the following, "Then I saw Maria. She was perfect and whole, staring at me with eyes filled with light. This is not the kind of light we see in the natural world, but a spirit of light that animates all life. She had a knowing smile on her face, the same smile I had seen so many times in our darkest moments together. I immediately recognized that smile. This moment confirmed what I sensed in the physical realm."

"When I saw that smile again here, I knew the truth at once. The smile was a clue to the fact that she had always been perfect in the spiritual realm. Even through all the dark times, she never suffered in spirit. Now I communicated with her in the unspoken language of the Ethereal: Please speak to me, I have never heard your voice. How I long to know your thoughts and your personality, to hear you say just once, 'I love you, Daddy.' Maria, I don't know what to do when you're having seizures. How do I comfort you? We have tried everything to heal you...what more can we do?' Maria replied in a silent voice: Just love me."

Rob then wakes up out of his near death experience back to his broken body in his hospital bed. He feels the strong emotions of wanting to be back in that place. He finds out soon after this experience that he is getting his heart. Rob then has a heart transplant and goes on a quest to find the donor of his heart. I won't get into that part of the book but I'll say that it was very interesting as well.

In regards to the web and interconnectivity of the universe, Rob says the following toward the end of the book, "Scientists specializing in quantum physics make the case that we are all made of the same cosmic material, and that our brains trick us into believing we are separate. All matter is made of atoms. Atoms have a nucleus that contains protons, neutrons, and electrons. These particles in turn are made of quarks, the smallest building blocks of matter. Broken down to the subatomic level, they are made of pure light. These quarks combine and have a variety of intrinsic properties that create infinite possibilities in the universe--the unique combinations determine whether something is going to be a tree or person."

One of the key concepts to the interconnectivity of all things is that when humanity starts to realize that we are all One as in we all come from the same Source and we are all connected, we will no longer want to fight one another. Perhaps we will still disagree but we won't have the anger, rage, and frustration that humans have for each other due to the fact that we believe we are all separate. The other concept here is that if all is interconnected then one small kind deed or the focus on love and gratitude will spread throughout the web.

In the book, Channeled Messages from Deep Space, there is a quote that has stayed with me. Let me share, "It is the most evolved and experienced soul who chooses the most severe challenges in the physical life, such as chronic illness; physical, mental, and psychological challenges; and severe struggles with poverty, abuse, or other types of suffering. Only those who feel they are ready to take on these types of challenges will incarnate with this kind of life framework".
