Relationships with AI Robots

An AI companion app is an app that is powered by artificial intelligence (AI) with the purpose to simulate a human-like conversation and to be used for the purpose of an ongoing relationship. The use of AI companion apps have surged. TechCrunch said, "Appfigures crunched the numbers and found that, as of July 2025, AI companion apps have driven $221 million in consumer spending worldwide." (reference here)
We are also seeing companies creating actual AI robots that look human-like. Realbotix is one of those companies that sells a full human-looking robot that can walk and talk starting at $125k (reference here). This doesn't seem to be fringe anymore. American Psychological Association, says "'Character.AI has 20 million monthly users, and more than half of them are under the age of 24. It’s been a norm for a while for Replika users to ‘marry’ their AI companion in virtual weddings to which they invite friends and colleagues,' said Rachel Wood, PhD, a cyberpsychology researcher based in Colorado who is also an adviser on the ethical design of AI systems". American Psychological Association also says, "Research is finding that heavy use of a digital companion (or a chatbot assistant used as a digital companion) can further isolate people. A joint OpenAI–MIT Media Lab study found that voice interactions with ChatGPT reduced loneliness and problematic dependence more effectively than text alone, but only with moderate use. Heavy daily use correlated with increased loneliness, suggesting that excessive reliance displaces authentic human connection". (reference here)
As we are seeing more and more AI robots in our society, we need to ask the question, what are the spiritual ramifications to relationships with AI robots?
Based on my research into near-death experiences, hypnosis, and evidential mediumship, what makes a human so complex is that we have lived many lives. Yes, we all reincarnate for the purpose of growth and evolution. An older, more evolved soul has lived hundreds if not thousands of incarnations on Earth or on other planets. The soul also completes training and studies in the spirit realm which adds to the evolution, growth, and complexity of the soul. My point here is that a human is much more complex than an AI robot because we have soul energy which includes many lives and knowledge we gain in the spirit realm.
Humans are all souls and before the soul incarnates into a human body, the soul creates a plan for the incarnation. We come together with our spirit guides (mentors in the spirit realm) and our soul group (our spiritual family in the spirit realm) and we create a high level blueprint for the life. We decide who our parents will be, where we will be born, the time period we are born into, and the challenges and purposes for the life. This plan is called the soul plan or pre-birth blueprint in the spiritual community. This is all very consistently explained in near-death experience accounts, past life and between life hypnosis, and evidential mediumship.
As part of this soul plan, we also decide who we will have relationships with, specifically who we will date and/or marry throughout the life. For example, I know that I've had other lives with my husband and I also know that we planned it out to meet and have a relationship. Of course, there is free will involved as well for my husband and I to decide the path our relationship takes but I've confirmed through channeling sessions that this was a planned relationship.
Relationships are very important in the life because they provide so much learning and that's the point for an incarnation and life on Earth: to learn, grow, and evolve. If someone chooses to have a relationship with an AI robot instead of another human, that AI robot doesn't have a soul so there may not be as much learning for the human in the relationship. An AI robot is meant to be agreeable and likable. There's no challenge or push and pull in the relationship. That AI robot may have a personality but it won't be the same complexity that comes with being a human with a soul.
Relationships are sometimes painful. We all hurt each other, that is a fact we can't deny. However, it's the pain that actually allows a soul to grow the most in a life. We don't feel pain in the spirit realm because we are all open, full of love, and in bliss. We incarnate into a human body to feel the emotions that come with being human and this includes love, joy, and also pain. A relationship with an AI robot may avoid pain but we won't grow as much from that relationship.
Based on what American Psychological Association says above, heavy daily use with an AI robot will actually create more loneliness. This is probably due to the fact that there is a subconscious feeling that something is missing from the relationship with an AI robot....a soul to soul connection. Essentially what I'm saying is that an AI robot can't replace a human with a soul. With human to human contact, we have a spiritual connection, an underlying feeling that we remember the person from prior lives and the spirit realm.
Humans are lonely, that is a known fact. We could say there is even a loneliness crisis going on right now. American Psychological Association says, "The survey, conducted online by The Harris Poll on behalf of APA, found that among more than 3,000 U.S. adults, nearly seven in 10 (69%) said they needed more emotional support in the past year than they received—an increase from 65% in 2024" (reference here).
Covid had some positive impacts where the climate and planet healed a bit from humans traveling less and using less fossil fuels, many humans evaluated their lives and made changes for the better, and people were able to work from home and spend more time with their kids. On the other hand, covid caused people to distance from each other. Humans need community and other humans. Instead of turning to technology, we need to turn to nature and community.
To summarize, AI robots and AI companionship will become more prevalent in our society. However, an AI robot will never be able to replace the complexity of a relationship with a human. Technology isn't a bad thing and it can really help society and make life better for humanity; however, we need to maintain a balance. This is also a very good example as to why humans need to grow our understanding of spirituality in alignment with our understanding of technology. Let's use technology to help humans but also remember that we are all spiritual beings and souls having a human experience.
