The Need for Physical Evidence of an Afterlife

There was a phase in my journey where I was desperately seeking physical evidence of an afterlife. I was reading books, taking classes with spiritual teachers, and wanted to see for myself that this was all real. I believe this urge for physical evidence came from growing up in a world that was bent on the principle that what is true and real is based on the 5 physical senses. I grew up with Catholicism but what is confusing is that science and religion are not explained together but are on opposite sides of the spectrum. Religion told me to believe without evidence and science told me to only believe with my physical senses....how confusing for a child.
So at one point I chose science which meant I didn't believe in an afterlife or anything that wasn't physical for most of my life. In the last three years as I was meditating, reading and taking classes focused on the energetic universe, I was also having evidential experiences. These experiences were very subtle for me and happened over time. There were enough experiences where I knew that this energetic universe was real. I was not gullible or making things up in my brain but I was having synchronistic experiences that I couldn't deny. However, if I explained my experiences to someone, it didn't mean that they believed my experiences were real or that they were convinced that there was more than the physical.
What I've found is that the pursuit for physical evidence is different for everyone. There are those people that don't even think about the need for physical evidence. They may be more sensitive to energy or they just have a knowing that there is more than the physical. There are also people that are atheists and suddenly have very intense awakening experiences like seeing and hearing spirits, near death experiences and spontaneous out-of-body experiences. And then there is the person that will see a spirit with their own eyes and tell themselves it was their imagination. My thought is that each soul has its own plan for its incarnation and that these differences have to do with what our soul wants to experience. The way that the soul plays out experiences is through our emotions and what we are guided to focus on, read and engage in day-to-day.
I've realized that I can't convince anyone that an energetic universe exists, of an afterlife, or that there is more than the physical senses. The pursuit of who we are and what we have been needs to be a personal journey that someone undertakes on their own. We can share our experiences and help each other along if requested but I've found that everyone is on their own journey.
I can tell you that for me this pursuit has been more fascinating, eye-opening, and intriguing than anything I've ever experienced. I sometimes wonder how different life on our planet would be if children were taught at a young age about the science of energy, consciousness, and how it all connects to spirituality. Perhaps this is a possible future for our planet to combine spirituality and science so that we know at a young age that it's real. As the science and medical community continue to better understand the vast realm of energy, consciousness and quantum physics and build tools to measure it, this could be a real possibility to bridge science with spirituality. How wonderful it would be for everyone to be taught at a young age and to fully understand that they are a divine, unique, and beautiful soul having a human experience.
