Ghosts and Earthbound Spirits

Since it's Halloween I thought it would be fun to write a blog post about my research into real ghosts, otherwise known as earthbound spirits. The last couple years as I was taking mediumship classes and researching the journey of the soul, this topic came up many times. What I found is that earthbound spirits are very real. What happens is that someone will have a traumatic death or event, and when they die, their energy will pop out or lift out of their body, and they won't go into the light. Thus, they will just remain in their energy body and stick around Earth for a while. They usually want to stay in their house or on the land they were living because they feel safe there and it's what they know.

My understanding is that this is rare and happens in extreme cases so please don't think you have a family member that is an earthbound spirit. Even if people are afraid of dying or even in cases of suicide, the person's energy will pop out of their body as they are physically dying and they will see their spirit guides, deceased family members, and/or angels to help lead them into a tunnel or portal of light.

An example of when this earthbound scenario happens is if someone committed crimes and they think they will go to hell due to religious dogma, and they are too disoriented and afraid to even see the light. So they will stick around their house and land for a while until they get bored or eventually see spirit guides. Their spirit guides will tell them, ok enough already, you need to go into the light now. The amount of time they are an earthbound spirit could be 100 years but feels like two weeks for the spirit since time is different out of a physical body.

There is a good example from natural born medium, Jamie Butler's book, With Love and Light where she helped an earthbound spirit go into the light. Jamie was asked to help a family who were friends with her stepmother. She was told that they thought there was a spirit haunting three rooms in the house, the main bedroom, baby's room, and living room. Below is a passage from her book:

"Crossing the large open space of the living room I announced to the spirit, 'If you are here I would like to see you. My name is Jamie. Anne asked me to come over and talk with you. I am not going to hurt you and you will not hurt me.' I threw in the last clause hoping 'it' would understand I did not want to fight. Still…there was no reply. One room remained to be explored. I slowly walked over to the doorway of the baby’s room and peeked in. There it was! A huge swirling mass of energy, dark blue and mossy gray in color, in the far back left of the room. It loomed in front of the closet door. Seeing this gave me the willies and I nearly tripped over my feet backpedaling into the kitchen to tell Anne what I saw. She shouted in amazement, 'That is the exact place where I get the creeps the most. That is why the baby’s clean clothes are on the floor—I can not go in the closet!'"

Jamie then enters the baby's room to talk to the spirit. Below is what she says in her book:

"Summoning all my courage I entered the baby’s room. The hairs on the back of my neck and arms stood on end. Nausea ran through me as if I had food poisoning. If only I had a proton pack like the ones used in Ghost Busters. I wouldn’t be so damn scared. I took a seat on the daybed and demanded to the unknown entity, 'Whoever is here, step forward so I can see you. I need to talk with you because you have…' Before I could finish my sentence, a very tall man, nearly six and a half feet high, wearing armor was standing about eight feet in front of me. Defensiveness glared from his face. His presence caused my stomach to turn deeper with a warming sensation. An imaginary belt tightened around my chest. I’m protected in white light and I cannot be harmed. (White light has a higher level of vibration than what he was able to create himself, being a Lost Soul, so I had the upper hand in that department.). told the vengeful spirit calmly, 'We need you to leave this house. It is not yours.' Probably not a good thing to say to an aggressive man in armor. Rephrasing the demand, 'I meant, why are you living here in this house?'"

Below was the conversation between the spirit and Jamie:

-“I had a family, one son and a wife until they were murdered,” he revealed, giving me a threatening look. “My whole camp was murdered when we were ransacked by the Indians. I was left to die. My head was fixed to the ground and my eyes made to stay open so I had to watch my family die first.”

-“I am sorry that someone treated you that way.” I was as compassionate as possible with him. “Are you still with your family?”

-“NO! They were taken from me!” his arms went up into the air to match his loud voice. -“Didn’t you go through a bright white light when you died?”

-“No. I take care of the farmland. I have to provide for the soldiers. This is my duty. I have to keep watch to protect us from the Indians.”

Jamie ends up convincing the spirit to go into a beautiful lit up doorway by explaining to him that his family already went into the light and they are behind the door. Below is what happens when he opens up to the possibility that his family aren't in the house, but are in the light:

-“All you have to do is imagine a doorway and she will be behind it.” He must have indulged my suggestion because a doorway of light appeared behind him. “I have seen your wife and son.” He stared at me like I was setting him up. “It’s true. They are behind you, inside the beautiful lighted doorway. Why don’t you try turning around and seeing them too?”

-“NO!” he yelled forcefully causing me to jump back on the bed and draw in my feet. My back was against the wall; I could not get further away from him without leaving the room. I had no idea what this man was capable of and I didn’t want to know. How do I turn this to my advantage?

-“I understand that you are in control, but if I was as strong as you I would not be afraid of a door. This place is no longer what you want it to be. Anne lives here with her family—not yours. We are living in the year 1997. Turn around and face your family that needs you!”

As soon as he turned around and saw them standing in the doorway, I heard a loud cry of pain like all his demons were drawn out of him. Before my eyes he transformed into the man he was before his dreadful death. The vortex in the room swelled up and vanished.

A cool breeze cut through the heat and I felt like a tornado whirled through me. I fought the dizziness and wiped the sweat from my face; I could not move from the bed. What just happened? Did I do the right thing? Is he gone? My guides appeared. “Jamie, he passed through the light and is with his family. He has been released from the In Between and is on to his own healing path.”

This story from Jamie is pretty consistent with my understanding of what happens. Essentially, we have free will as humans and as souls. If we want to hang out on the Earth plane after we die, then we can. Our spirit guides won't make us go into the light; however, I definitely recommend going into the light. The spirit realm is way better than hanging around here. The other thing is that, there are mediums that specialize in helping earthbound spirits transition into the light. Jamie said that she personally doesn't like this work but she has great respect for those mediums that do this work. She explains that they basically have to be mediators convincing the spirit to be open to the idea of the spirit realm and moving on.

Michael Newton has a chapter with case examples on earthbound spirits in his book, Destiny of Souls. Below is a quote from that chapter:

"Some people have the misconception that ghosts don't know they are dead or how to escape their situations. Yes, in a sense, they are trapped but this is a condition of mental obstruction rather than any material hindrance. Souls are not lost in some confined astral plane and they do know they have made a transition out of life on Earth. The ghost's confusion lies in the obsessive attachment they have to places, people and events where they can't let go. These actions of self-displacement are voluntary but special guides, called Redeemer Masters, constantly watch for signs that the known disturbed spirits are ready to exit. We have the right to self-determination, even with our death experiences. Spiritual guides will honor poor decision-making. From what I have been able to observe, ghosts are less mature spirits who have trouble freeing themselves from earthly contaminations. This is particularly true if their stay in limbo is for prolonged periods in Earth years. The reasons for staying behind are varied."

I have a story of my own about this topic. When I was working with Akashic Reader, Erin Lynn to detail out my past lives, she told me that in a past incarnation I became an earthbound spirit. I was living in the black forest area of Germany during the 1300s. I was an alcoholic in that life and the life didn't end well. I ended up being killed and became an earthbound spirit. After I died, I basically hung around for a while until I got bored I guess, and then I went into the light with my spirit guides. After learning about this, I looked up the black forest area of Germany and it's known for being haunted. The black forest has some spooky legends, for example they have their own headless horseman and some haunted houses. My understanding is that the area carries some dark energy from the violence and warfare that have been prevalent in that area throughout history. I guess this goes back to the Roman Era, Germanic tribes, and even before that. When there is a lot of warfare and violence in a certain area, then it can create a culmination of darker energy which can actually affect people. Humans have an energetic component to our body, it's called the auric field, and we are affected by energy. Erin said that the purpose for that life I had, was to feel what it was like to live on land that had darker energy and to be affected by it. Most people have had a few darker incarnations for the learning. Obviously, it worked because I have no interest in visiting historic battle sites, and I certainly don't want to hang out in the black forest now. I learned that lesson!

Perhaps this information will shed a light on what is really happening when someone becomes an earthbound spirit. It's just a person that usually experienced some trauma and wasn't educated about the process of death and dying. This is something else that I wanted to mention. It's really important that humanity stops with the fear mongering and religious dogma about hell. It's a real disservice for humanity. There is not a hell-like environment where bad people are forced to go, that is absolutely false. People create their own hell with their thoughts. It is a very true statement that we all create our own reality, both as humans and when we are in spirit form. We all have an energetic component and when we die, we are back to our natural energetic form. When we are in that energetic form, our thoughts and intentions are very important. That's why it's good to learn to control your thoughts and clear out all the fears and anxieties before we die. If we can do that then the death experience can be very peaceful and beautiful.

The other thing is that if people were better educated about the death process and what actually happens when we die then they wouldn't be so afraid. Humanity avoids the word death and learning about it, pretending like it will never happen. We are all going to die but it's nothing to fear. Meditation is very important in this discussion because it allows someone to observe first hand that they are not just a physical body. The physical body is the vehicle used by the soul to experience physical reality. Humans have a physical component and an energetic component. As we meditate and quiet the brain, we start to become more familiar with this concept of having both physical and energetic forms. This prepares us for the death process where the energetic form separates from the physical, leaving the physical vehicle behind. I'm bringing all this up because if people were less fearful of death and more educated on the process of dying and afterlife, then there probably wouldn't be many earthbound spirits.

I hope all this makes sense and you better understand the concept of a "ghost" or earthbound spirit. It's not quite as spooky once you dig into the details. In the end this is all just part of the creative experiences the soul can choose to have for learning and growth. We all eventually end up back in our home in the spirit realm, we then observe our prior lives, learn from them, and then plan another incarnation when we are ready. Happy halloween!
